NAME: Haldir of Lorien
CANON: Tolkien series
CANON POINT: The Battle of Helm's Deep (pre-death) - film
AGE: Unknown but at least a couple thousand. Appears 30s.
BACKGROUND: Wiki Note: His book canon and film canon differ, and this is outlined in the wiki. Though technically inaccurate (no elves were at Helm's Deep and he probably wouldn't have the authority to lead them), I'll be taking from the film canon since he plays a larger role in it and makes more of an appearance.
PERSONALITY:
As with most elves, Haldir is stoic, elegant, and quiet. It is very rare you will see him show much exaggerated emotion. However, that's not to be mistaken for him being completely bereft of feelings or expressions either. Once in a while he may be caught off guard and the steely facade may be cracked open (i.e. when Aragorn hugs him, he doesn't even know how to react at first).
It can be inferred that Haldir is intellectual. Again, most elves are, but he had a special interest in scholarly pursuits as he knows much of the world beyond Lothlorien's borders and can also speak and understand the Common tongue. He also has a strong sense of diplomacy. Elves of his world tend to be a bit xenophobic and prefer to keep to themselves, alliances of old long dissolved and forgotten about, but Haldir stands guard at one of the borders, and thus experiences more of the outside world. He also befriends humans, hobbits, wizards and the like. Not really dwarves in the way that someone like Legolas gets along with them, but he did manage to keep Gimli alive, so there is that. He shares the sort of racist attitude that most elves have when it comes to "lesser" races like dwarves, so he can come off as unkind at first. Hoever, he seems to understand the importance of those old alliances and (in the film) plays a large part in bringing them back together as he arrives at the forsaken battle of Helm's Deep with a large garrison of archers.
He is not without a sense of importance and haughtiness as compared to others. While he interacts with residents outside of Lothlorien, to gain his respect and his trust, one has to prove themselves worthy of it. He knows that he, as an elf of Lorien, is magnificent and expects nothing less from his associates. His is of a prideful race and he's no exception to that, no doubt highly biased toward his own kin and occasionally difficult to convince otherwise. A lot of this pride reflects off of him in the form of snarky or backhanded comments. But he has seen the good in others, and it's not impossible to crack that shell at times. What that does occur, you've made yourself a friend for all time. Haldir is exceptionally loyal and good of heart. Dutiful, studious, and diligent, you would be hard pressed to find a better marchwarden, or loyal soldier, than Haldir.
Haldir is extremely confident in his own abilities, and is not all bark about it either. He has the skills to back it up. Of course, he has been alive for at least two thousand years and some change, so that should only be expected. Though elves (with Haldir certainly no exception) do tend to be rather serious and even sometimes grim, they are not without their own methods of revelry and celebration. Among his closer allies, Haldir softens into a warmer character who smiles easier than many of his sheltered kin. It would be difficult not to, with friends like the Fellowship.
Though he meets a tragic end rather than sailing off for eternal life like his brethren, Haldir would not have regretted it. Rather than live out the centuries in secluded contemplation, he went out honorably doing something that he could be proud of, and that he could safely assume would contribute to the greater good for all. That's not a bad legacy to leave behind for creatures who seldom get to leave anything at all.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Haldir does not have specific powers, however he is an elf of Middle Earth. Basically this means he appears to be forever youthful and is immune to illness, he's more agile and quick than a human. He can walk lightly without leaving a trace, i.e. snowdrifts will have no footprints and he will not sink into the snow. He can also see and hear far better than a human and most other creatures. Elves are effectively immortal though they can be killed by violence or extreme despair such as heartbreak or losing the will to live on any longer. They also do not require sleep but rather can enter a meditative state.
A more in depth explanation is here, but there isn't anything game-breaking or that would matter terribly in the setting.
Haldir personally is a seasoned warrior and favors the bow. He also stands above most other elves of Lorien in that he speaks and understands Westron (Common)...not that that's relevant in Prisma, I just think it's neat.
INVENTORY: Bow/arrows, armor, small elven blade, small parcel of lembas bread
MOONBLESSING: Cordis
